Right- side heart failure

The bad blood coming from various parts of the body reaches the right side of the heart. This part pumps the blood into the lungs for purification. When the right sides of the heart- for whatever be the reason – becomes weak, it fails to pump the blood completely into the lungs. And because of back pressure, the quantity of blood in the right part of the heart increases, and the liver suffers from extra pressure. As a result, water and salt enter all the tissues of the body, and inflammation of the legs and expansion of the liver result. Lower abdomen loses its strength and looks distended. Inflammation of neck veins also takes place and they look visible. This disease of inflammation of the tissues with water is called Oedema. In some serious cases, even the face looks swollen.

There are other reasons also for the left- sided heart failure

In Cardiomyopathy, because of the extra work load, the heart loses much of its capacity of pumping blood. Whatever be the reason the left side heart fails to pump out the blood from it, or fails to receive the blood from outside. Consequently, the extra blood in the left side of the heart moves back and fills the lungs with blood. Because the lungs are filled with blood, water fills the bronchial tube (Pulmonary Oedema). Its main symptom is breathlessness.

The reasons for the left- sided heart failure

High B.P, Overworking of the Thyroid gland (Hyper Thyroids), Defective heart valves (Aortic Stenosis, Aortic Incompetence, and Mitral Incompetence), Defective heart by birth (Coarctation of the Aorta). In the people with such defects, the left side of the heart exerts itself too much to pump the blood. In order to cope with this extra activity, the left side of the heart may expand, or its muscles may become thick, or the heart beat may increase. These conditions are but temporary and the heart failure begins at once.

Incapacity of the left side (Left- side failure)

Blood purified by receiving oxygen in the lungs reaches the left side of the heart, and from there to other parts of the body. When the left side becomes weak, it loses its capacity to pump the purified blood to other parts of the body. Then the lungs suffer from back pressure and as a result, fluid will be stored in them. The fluid thus stored there, obstructs the receiving of oxygen or the releasing of carbon-dioxide. The patient thus becomes breathless for want of enough oxygen. The most important symptom of the left sided heart failure is that the patient feels breathless when he lies down flatly on his back. But, when he gets up and sits, he feels all right. And the cough too vanishes.

HEART FAILURE

If the heart loses its capacity to pump the blood, it is called heart failure. When the heart muscles become weak, it loses the capacity to pump the blood to different parts of the body or, because of some reason or other, the blood reaching the heart becomes less in quantity. Because of these two reasons, heart failure results. The incapacity of the heart in pumping blood is divided into two types; Incapacity of the left side, Incapacity of the right side.

A Man That Ticks

A poet says “Time will say nothing but I told you so, time only knows the price we have to pay,if I could tell you, I would let you know.”Define time? Is that something that ticks, that moves the earth in orbit, or defines the change between night and day? Is time that which is “of the essence”, or the one equated with “gold”? Ask this question and a man in the name of Evan Zimmermann will not simply tell you what time is, he will show you instead. For with every time told is a time piece, and with every time piece comes a story.

This entrepreneur will show you more than what time is worth. In fact, this man has been showing peculiar, interesting, and vintage time pieces to a wide and far-reaching clientele. He sold the watches of Mahatma Gandhi, even the ubiquitous Albert Einstein’s. But amidst these fascinating achievements, it is still notable to commend that Evan Zimmermann do not simply end with what his services or profession show. His being a Chief Executive Officer opened more doors to companionship and sharing, rather than it and fame obscuring other people from looking into his side of the success and the limelight.

The records of sales of the company that Evan Zimmermann manages that skyrocketed through the years is not simply laudable, it is a record. Not simply in the big sums of money he reaped for working on good deals, but his dedication and excellence in his chosen field of endeavor sets off inspiration to everyone that, with simple patience, perseverance, and persistence, man can achieve a lot of things even bigger than himself. For unlike others in the corporate world, he is someone who still puts his interests and enthusiasms at heart. He is still a patron to the arts, a man who still sets time to discover good books, music, poetry, art. After all, the best of men are not those who are successful and wealthy, thank you very much. The best are those who, even behind the tight call of work time, still find time to play and laugh.

After recovery

One may feel worried or depressed even after many days of recovery. You might not have cared for a little pain in the chest before the heart attack, but not so now. Trains seem to rush in your heart. This is but natural. You will become normal in a few days. Of those patients who have recovered, 80% will be able to attend to their normal activities in 8-10 weeks after recovery. To what amount of work you will sustain, depends on the amount of damage caused to the heart. In such cases, the doctor will advise. He will prescribe some exercise. Don’t lift up or push weights. Don’t eat fast. Take a light dinner 2 hours before you go to bed. Take the tablets as per the doctor’s advice. Don’t stop them suddenly, especially Inderal, ciplar, and Tenormin, and such other Beta-Blocking medicines. Keep Glycerol Trinitrate tablets with you which shall be fresh.

What should the patients do

Immediately seek the doctor’s advice. Don’t delay. There is a chance of 30 to 40% of such patients dying if there is no immediate medical care. Those who die, 75% of them die within 2 to 3 hours of the attack. So, move quickly when there is heart attack. Under any circumstances, don’t panic. People around also should not do so. They should remain calm. Remember if the patient can survive for 5-10 minutes, the fear of death comes down by30% (Unless one is in hospital, nobody can get medical aid in such a short time). If you are an Angina patient, keep a nitroglycerine tablet under your tongue (which you may be carrying with you).
If you don’t have any ulcer in your stomach, swallow ½ a tablet of Aspirin. Loosen the dress on the body. Lie down comfortably on a cot where there is plenty of air or lean on a couple of pillows. Swallow a couple of antacid tablets like Diogenes. Drink Glucose water. Keep away from smoking and drinking.

Diagnosis

The doctor decides from the patients past history and also from a few tests. Immediately ECG will be taken. If the surgery is the immediate course to be adopted, they do Coronary Artery Angiography. Gets ECG and other blood tests done. If the patient can survive for a few hours after the attack- 80% of such people may survive. If the patient is under 40, there is no chance of any risk. Many survivors can participate in their regular activities. Only in a few of them, there is a chance of Angina appearing again, when they take to hard work involving strain. Some people have to abstain from doing hard labor. In order to avoid is recurrence, follow the instructions given by the doctor- in taking food, keeping the body weight under control, stopping smoking, doing exercises as per instructions.

Complications

If the damage is caused to the heart muscle, it leads to heart failure. (The heart loses its pumping capacity of blood). Sometimes the heart beat may not be regular. This is called Arrhythmias. The pumping capacity of the heart depends on this. Many of the patients who have died of heart attack are said to have suffered from a kind of fast heart beat (Arrhythmias) also called Ventricular Fibrillation. But, the doctor can rectify if the patient reaches him in time. Some days after the heart attack, there is a chance of the Mitral Valve becoming damaged?
